About Us
Sitting on 1,500 acres (607 hectares) along the Houston Ship Channel, the PEMEX Deer Park Refinery is one of the 20 largest refineries in the United States. Its strategic location on the U.S. coast of the Gulf of Mexico places it in an ideal position to collect crude oil from around the world and supply the fuel demands of both North and South America.
PEMEX Deer Park has a processing capacity of 340,000 barrels per day. It processes domestic and international crudes from Mexico, the United States, Canada, Africa, and South America, and produces products that fuel the world on land, sea, and air.
The refinery has existed for nearly a century, and over the years has undergone a series of investments and asset upgrades to improve its production capabilities.
While our equipment processes crude oil, our most valuable asset and our first priority will always be our people.
The facility employs close to 1,000 full-time employees and more than 1,200 contract workers with employees represented by the United Steelworkers.
Our employees constitute the heart of our refinery, which operates 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Not only do they work together to bring the world the energy it needs, but they also give back to the community with their time, expertise, and charitable donations.
For nearly three decades, PEMEX has invested in the refinery, initially as a partner of a joint venture, until it became the sole owner of the refinery, which has been operating as PEMEX Deer Park since early 2022.
The refinery is currently part of Petróleos Mexicanos, a Mexican oil company created in 1938 by Lázaro Cárdenas, a former president of Mexico. PEMEX is the leading producer of crude oil, natural gas, and refining products in Mexico and is ranked 14th in the world in terms of its refining capacity.
